Description
The collections consist of primary and secondary research conducted by doctoral candidate Delight W. Dodyk in connection with her research into the New Jersey suffragette movement, in particular the role of then Morristown resident Julia Sampson Hurlbut. The materials consist of correspondence between Dodyk and Hurlbut's daughter, Barbara Helm, as well as the transcript of an oral history both participated in during 1995. Also included are original and photocopied photographs of Hurlbut at different stages of her life, news clippings regarding major life events of Julia and her husband John T.B. Bissell, research on the lives and occupations of their families, and information on Hurlbut's overseas war work with the YMCA during World War I and Bissell's military service as a decorated officer.
